Here you can find a recipe of Ayahuasca using Mimosa hostilis and Banisteriopsis caapi, the sacred vine. Do not forget that Ayahuasca is a powerful brew so, read a bit about it, especially about Toxic combinations and MAO-Inhibitors.

You will need:

  • Shredded Banisteriopsis caapi
  • Powdered Mimosa hostilis
  • White vinegar
  • Distilled or filtered water
  • 4 stainless steel pans (DO NOT USE aluminium or teflon pans)
  • Cloth or T-shirt
  • A lot of time :)

If the B. Caapi is not shredded, simply wrap it in a towel and smash it against a hard surface. For the Mimosa hostilis, it is fairly simple to turn it into powder using a coffee grinder.

Preparation

1. Put the Mimosa and the Caapi each in its own pan. Add one teaspoon of vinegar and around one litre of water to each pan.

2. Put it on the stove and let it simmer for around 3 hours (or until the water level gets low). Be careful, do not let it boil. If you cannot attend to it, just turn off the heat source and then return to it later.

3. Filter the Mimosa and the Caapi to separate containers. You can use a tea cloth or a t-shirt and you will need to filter each brew around 4 or 5 times, until it becomes clear.

4. Reduce both brews each in its own pot. Again, be careful not to let it boil.

5. Repeat steps 2, 3 and 4 three times each, always keeping the plants separate. The plant material should be cooked 3 times, always with fresh water and vinegar. The filtered brew is kept separate and reduced over low heat as you cook the plants for the second and third time. (This is why you need four pots)

6. At this point you should have two containers, one with the Mimosa tea reduction and one with the Caapi reduction. The amounts should be no less than half a cup and not more than a full cup. Put them in the fridge overnight.

7. The next day, take the Mimosa reduction and filter it again with a cloth or t-shirt. Be careful not to disturb the sediments at the bottom of the container. If you have properly filtered the B. Caapi, it should be clean and clear with a purplish colour when warmed up.

8. It’s time to take the brew! Warm up the Caapi tea (shake it up to make sure all sediments are dissolved in the tea). You can drink the Mimosa and the Caapi together or choose to drink the Caapi tea first and then the Mimosa tea. NEVER TAKE THE MIMOSA TEA FIRST. The Caapi is MAO-I, which will open the way for the Mimosa to take effect.

* If you only have one pot, the plants can be combined throughout all the process but you will need to spread the brewing over more than one night. The reduction must be done after the sediment settles overnight in the fridge, as in step 7.

Enjoy the experience and treat it with respect!
