Ephedrine is used in many medicines against cough, asthma, allergies and also in some flu medicine, but through the growing production of illegal Methamphetamine, which needs ephedrine as base substance, the amount of preparations was dropped and the amount of ephedrine containing medicine per person was limited.

Pure ephedrine can be sniffed and used orally as well, but in most cases it is used orally. Most popular are pills that contain an extract of the ephedra plant, the powder could be sniffed as well, but ephedra has a very bad taste and so this is not very popular. During the 90s ephedra products gained a lot of popularity through the use in dietary supplements and also as enhancement during sports.

Oral

Pure ephedrine or plant extracts can be swallowed as powder or in capsules. Ensure to take it with plenty of water or any other non alcoholic beverage.

Sniffing

The pure ephedrine can also be taken as a sniff.

Dosage

Depending on the usage the average dosages are quite distinct from each other. In cough medicine a common dosage is set between 5-25 mg, but to achieve psychoactive effects you need at least 25 mg. The average dosage for recreational or stimulating effects is between 25-150 mg.

Safer use

Ephedrine will built up a tolerance rather quickly if it is used repeatedly or daily.

If Ephedrine was used over a long time period and the consumption is stopped, there will be a lack of energy for a couple of days, depending on the amounts and duration it had been used.

Ephedrine in combination with caffeine will greatly enhance the effects of each other, so even a cup of coffee or an energy drink can enormously raise the effects from Ephedrine and thus should be avoided.

Ensure a healthy diet before and after using Ephedrine, the effects make your body burn more calories and also use up more vitamins and proteins, so make sure your body has enough nutrients to recover.

Do not use Ephedrine when you are pregnant.

Do not use Ephedrine when you have problems with your heart, veins or suffer from any other illness on the circulatory system.

Do not use Ephedrine during an illness, especially not when you have a slightly higher body temperature than normally, cause Ephedrine will boost your system and thus also slightly raises body temperature.

Do not mix Ephedrine with Alcohol, the strong stimulation can make you drink more alcohol before you feel its full effects. But besides that both substances lead to dehydration and could be problematic in combination.

Do not mix Ephedrine with any other stimulants.

Ephedrine is one of the strongest stimulants found in nature and it was the model for amphetamine. It leads to a strong stimulation, positive mood shift, enhanced metabolism and has long lasting effects. It can be found in various types of plants all around the world, most common in the Ephedra plants, the most popular representatives are ephedra sinica and ephedra nevadensis, while ephedra sinica remains as the most potent source of ephedrine worldwide.
