What are Magic Truffles

Magic truffles, also known as philosopher stone´s or psilocybe tampanensis are in fact sclerotia of psilocybe mushrooms.

Sclerotia are the thickenings of mycelium that, like real truffles from the genus tuber,  grow underground.  We call them magic truffles because the sclerotia also contains psilocybin and psilocin, the same active substances that are found in magic mushrooms.
Truffles have a brownish colour and look a bit like a piece of rock.

Taking truffles

Eating

Not only do magic truffles look different than other magic mushrooms, they also taste different.
Some say they have a kind of nutty flavour and enjoy eating them raw, chewing the truffles well.
The truffles can also be spread on top of a piece of bread with peanut butter (or any spread of your liking) to disguise the taste.

Truffle tea

Boil some water, turn the heat down and add the truffles in little slices. Let it simmer for around 15 minutes to 30 minutes. Filter the tea and you can drink it.
To improve the taste of the tea, you could sweeten it with some sugar or honey or add some other tea.

Effects

The effect of magic truffles are the same as magic mushrooms. They look and taste different, but they are a part of the same living organism and contain the same entheogenic substances.

Some of the common effects that you can expect are:

  • tingling
  • tactile enhancements
  • nauseas – can be reduced with fasting before taking the truffles
  • yawning
  • euphoria
  • giggling and laughter
  • colour enhancement and shifting
  • time distortion
  • mixed senses – hear colours or see sounds
  • closed eyes visuals
  • perspective distortions
  • feeling of dreaming while awake
  • symmetrical texture repetition
  • scenery sliding
  • visual haze
  • depth perception distortions
  • better perspective of one’s role in life
  • internal and external hallucinations
  • entheogenic states of consciousness

The intensity and duration of the effects will depend on the dosage taken. Also, these effects rarely occur all at the same time.

Every trip is unique and somewhat intimate. Even though the effects are common to all the trips, the way you embrace them, feel it and react to them is always something personal and might not be felt the same way by other people.

As it happens with magic mushrooms, there are some issues that you should pay attention to when planning on embracing a trip, especially if you are a first timer. You can read all about how to plan a magic truffles/mushrooms trip in our Trip Guide: Do’s and Dont’s – A Guide on How To Prepare for a Magic Mushroom Trip.

Side and after effects

The most common side effect described by those taking truffles is nausea and vomiting, which can be reduced by fasting some hours before taking the truffles.

A bad trip is a very rare side effect and when it happens, users usually relate the bad trip to a wrong setting. Your mood, your frame of mind and the environment you choose to take the truffles will have a great influence on how the trip goes.

The day after you take truffles, you might feel a little tired so, if you have the time, just sleep a good nights sleep after your magic truffle experience.

Most users describe feeling in a better mood the days after taking mushrooms or truffles  along with more empathy towards others and less feelings of anxiety than usual.

Conservation

Fresh truffles with hold 2 weeks in the fridge. They can be stored for longer, but they need to be dried.

Drying truffles is quite simple. Just place them on a newspaper in a warm room. You could use a fan to speed up the process. After drying, put the mushrooms in a cool and dark place in an airtight box or bag.

Dried truffles should be used within 6 months. They will not turn bad, but after 6 months they might start to loose their potency.
